Job summary

Volkert Inc. is seeking an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader for the Gulf Region, with positions in Brentwood, Chattanooga, or Knoxville, TN.

You will lead field inspections, ensure safety, and coordinate multi-party efforts to maintain bridge integrity. The role requires a minimum high school diploma, 5+ years of bridge inspection experience, NBIS leadership, strong writing and communication skills, and 50% local travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in bridge inspections
• At least 1 year as a qualified NBIS Team Leader
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Ability to travel 50% locally within TN
• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening
• TDOT/NHI Courses bonus if applicable

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site safety inspections of bridges and culverts
• Lead a team of inspectors in the field during inspections
• Schedule and coordinate inspections, personnel, vendors, stakeholders, maintenance of traffic
• Operate access equipment and other equipment to perform inspections

We are currently searching for an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to support our Gulf Regionlocated in Brentwood, Chattanooga, or Knoxville, TN.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.

What you’ll be doing:

• Performing on-site safety inspections of bridges and culverts
• Leading a team of inspectors in the field during inspections
• Scheduling and coordinating inspections, personnel, vendors, stakeholders, maintenance of traffic
• Operating access equipment and other equipment to perform inspections
• Reviewing and updating bridge inspection reports
• Reviewing structural analysis data

What you need to have:

• The successful candidate will have experience in conducting field inspections and preparing inspection reports. Candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of NBIS and have advanced writing and communication skills.
• NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course with Refresher Training within the last 5 years
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in bridge inspections with a minimum of 1 year service as a qualified NBIS Team Leader
• 50% Local In-State Travel required
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

• Knowledge of TDOT's bridge inspection process
• NHI Fracture Critical Inpsection Techniques for Steel Bridges and Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures Courses
