Job summary

GFT in Austin, TX is seeking a Bridge Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience on a dynamic bridge team. You will assist in structural analysis, modeling, drafting, and coordination across disciplines on multimodal transportation projects.

The role provides mentorship from experienced engineers and a pathway for potential full-time opportunities upon graduation. Expected hours are hybrid with an emphasis on collaboration and learning.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures.
• Demonstrated interest in bridge and structural design and analysis through prior internships or coursework.
• Basic understanding of bridge design principles.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a design team.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support real client projects by performing structural analysis, including finite element 3D modeling, design, and drafting for transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures.
• Assist in quantity calculations and contribute to cost estimates.
• Aid in the development of construction contract documents and review shop and working drawings.
• Coordinate work activities with other disciplines as directed.
• Assist in reviewing inspection reports and performing bridge load ratings under supervision.
