GFT is seeking a Bridge Engineering Intern in Houston, TX for a mid-May to mid-August program. You will join a team delivering structural analysis, modeling and drafting for transportation structures such as bridges, culverts and retaining walls.

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate Civil Engineering program with a focus on Structures.
• Demonstrated interest in bridge/structural design from internships or coursework.
• Basic understanding of bridge design principles.

Responsibilities

• Support real client projects with structural analysis, 3D finite element modeling, design and drafting for transportation structures.
• Assist in quantity calculations and contribute to cost estimates.
• Aid in developing construction contract documents and review shop drawings.
• Coordinate activities with other disciplines as directed.
• Assist in reviewing inspection reports and performing bridge load ratings under supervision.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do

During your internship, you will work on a highly functioning team and aid in providing design services for a wide variety of projects. You'll receive guidance, supervision and mentorship by experienced engineers and professionals with your success as the goal. The majority of our interns convert to full-time employees.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Support real client projects by performing structural analysis, including finite element 3D modeling, design, and drafting for transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures.
• Assist in quantity calculations and contribute to cost estimates.
• Aid in the development of construction contract documents and review shop and working drawings.
• Coordinate work activities with other disciplines as directed.
• Assist in reviewing inspection reports and performing bridge load ratings under supervision.

Education | Experience

What You’ll Bring To Our Firm

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures.
• Demonstrated interest in bridge and structural design and analysis through prior internships or applied academic coursework.
• Basic understanding of bridge design principles.
• Familiarity with CADD software such as MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a design team.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $21.00 - $28.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
