Job summary

Consor in Dallas, TX is seeking a Bridge Engineering Designer to support planning, design, and rehabilitation of transportation structures, from initial studies through construction. Under engineers' guidance, you will perform analyses, prepare drawings, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, gaining hands-on experience delivering safe and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification preferred or required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for planning, analysis, design, and rehabilitation of bridge and transportation structures on projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Assist with bridge inspections, condition assessments, load evaluations, and the development of repair and rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design details, and construction documents for bridges, retaining walls, culverts, overhead sign structures, and related infrastructure.
  • Review shop drawings, contractor submittals, and RFIs to verify compliance with project specifications and design intent.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction, including site visits and coordination with contractors, owners, and stakeholders.
  • Develop quantity takeoffs, construction cost estimates, and engineers' opinions of probable construction costs for project planning and delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, and design memoranda for clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in the development of PS&E packages in accordance with DOT, AASHTO, and client standards.
  • Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, traffic, and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Utilize engineering software and CAD/BIM tools to develop structural models, perform analyses, and prepare design drawings.
  • Support project managers in maintaining schedules, budgets, and quality control.
  • Participate in field investigations, data collection, and structural evaluations to support design development.
  • Ensure designs comply with codes, standards, and safety requirements while promoting constructible solutions.
  • Contribute to proposals and client-facing materials for pursuits and business development.

What Your Day Will Look Like:

As a Bridge Engineering Designer, you will provide technical support for the planning, evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and construction of transportation infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will assist with research, engineering analyses, concept development, and preparation of design documents for a variety of load-bearing structures, including bridges, retaining walls, overhead sign structures, and other transportation-related facilities.


This role offers the opportunity to contribute to projects throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial studies and design development through construction. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, develop technical design skills, and gain hands-on experience delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions for a diverse range of clients and projects.


What You’ll Do:


  • Provide technical support for the planning, analysis, design, and rehabilitation of bridge and transportation structures on projects of varying size and complexity.

  • Assist with bridge inspections, condition assessments, load evaluations, and the development of repair and rehabilitation recommendations.

  • Provide field engineering support during construction, including site visits, construction observation, and coordination with contractors, owners, and project stakeholders.

  • Develop quantity takeoffs, construction cost estimates, and engineer's opinions of probable construction costs to support project planning and delivery.

  • Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, design memoranda, and other project documentation for clients and regulatory agencies.

  • Assist in the development of bridge plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) packages in accordance with applicable DOT, AASHTO, and client standards.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, traffic, and environmental engineering staff to deliver integrated project solutions.

  • Utilize engineering software and CAD/BIM tools to develop structural models, perform analyses, and prepare design drawings.

  • Support project managers in maintaining project schedules, budgets, quality control requirements, and client deliverables.

  • Participate in field investigations, data collection, and structural evaluations to support design development and project decision-making.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements while promoting cost-effective and constructible solutions.

  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, technical presentations, and client-facing materials for project pursuits and business development efforts.


What You’ll Need:


  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

  • Engineer-in- Training (EIT) Certification.


This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.


While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
