Job summary

Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Bridge Engineering Associate to join our Alabama-based team. You will participate in delivering infrastructure solutions through highway bridge design for public clients at local, county, or state levels.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, perform structural design and modeling, and contribute to plans, specs, and inspection activities. A Bachelor’s in civil engineering is required, with EIT preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • 0–4 years of bridge engineering experience.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret job-related manuals and documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and collaborative teamwork.

  • Works with a team in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for projects of various sizes and complexity.
  • Independently and confidently performs structural engineering design, modeling and calculations associated with highway bridge design projects.
  • Assists in the planning, development, and coordination of bridge engineering designs.
  • Assists in the preparation or modification of reports specifications, plans, permits, and designs for bridge related projects.
  • Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to help resolve a variety of complex problems.
  • Assists in the analysis of reports, maps, drawings, and tests, in order to plan and design projects.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Performs bridge inspections for routine and complex bridge structures, prepare reports and bridge repair plans, and coordinate with other team members.
  • Accompanies Engineers and technicians to bridge inspection site visits as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements
Education & Experience Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
  • EIT Certification preferred
  • 0 - 4 years’ experience
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret job-related manuals and documents
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced-collaborative team atmosphere with an established group of surveyors, engineers, scientists, and administrative staff.
