Job summary

HBM Engineering Group, LLC is seeking a Bridge Engineer/Inspector to support IDOT District One and Two inspections and reporting. You will inspect bridges to NBIS standards and help document conditions and deficiencies for ongoing projects.

The role requires 4+ years in bridge engineering or inspection, Illinois leadership certification, and a valid driver's license. WBE/DBE details and a strong team/remote work capability are valued.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited college/university (M.S. in Structural Engineering a plus).
• Team Leader Certified in Illinois; P.E. license a plus. FHWA Element Level Bridge Inspection Training completed.
• FHWA Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges completed.
• Minimum 4+ years of bridge engineering experience in design and/or inspection.
• Ability to climb and inspect bridges, including wading in streams, and work at heights.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience with IDOT policies and procedures.
• Proven record of accurate, thorough work.
• Strong time management, work ethic, and eagerness to learn.
• Good oral and written communication; ability to build relationships; team and remote work capability.

Responsibilities

• Assist IDOT engineers, managers, and technicians in daily inspection work across IDOT District One and Two.
• Prepare reports documenting bridge conditions and deficiencies.
• Perform NBIS-compliant Element Level and Routine Bridge Inspections.

HBM Engineering Group, LLC provides Structural, Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering services to public sector clients like Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway, Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and private sector clients. HBM is a WBE/DBE firm established in 2003 and located in Greater Chicago Area at Hillside, Illinois.

HBM specializes in:

1) Design of Highway Bridges and Related Transportation Structures.

2) Design of Transportation and Roadway Facilities

3) Bridge Inspection in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).

4) Design and Inspection of Buildings and other structures

5) Construction Management

6) Special Services such as residential and commercial facility structural inspections, expert witness, design reviews, technical education, and training.

The Opportunity

HBM Engineering Group, LLC is currently seeking a Bridge Engineer/Inspector.

Primary Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To

The individual will assist the IDOT’s engineers, Managers, and Technicians in the daily work required to inspect structures throughout IDOT District One and District Two and to prepare reports documenting their condition and deficiencies.

Typical work assignments of the individual will be to perform Bridge Inspections in accordance with NBIS procedures for Element Level and Routine Inspections.

Required Skills

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university. (Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering is a plus)
• Must be Team Leader Certified in the State of Illinois. (Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license a plus)
• Must have completed FHWA Introduction to Element Level Bridge Inspection Training.
• Must have completed FHWA Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges.
• Minimum of 4+ years of bridge engineering experience in all elements of bridge designs and/or inspection.
• Ability to climb and inspect various types of bridges, including wading in streams, and be comfortable working at heights for extended periods of time.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Experience with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and familiarity with their policies and procedures
• Proven record of work that is accurate and thorough.
• Superior time management skills, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn.
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to build strong relationships
• Ability to work effectively in a team and remote environment.

Compensation

The approximate compensation range for this position is $90,000 to $140,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, and skill set.
