Job summary

DJ&A seeks a full-time Structural Bridge Engineer I/II in Albuquerque, NM with 2–5 years of bridge design experience. You will perform structural analysis, assist with inspections, and prepare drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and tools like OpenBridge, BrR, LEAP, Mathcad, or BRASS under mentorship.

You will apply AASHTO LRFD criteria and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver nationwide bridge designs, with flexible remote/hybrid arrangements and professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures.
  • Two to five years of structural engineering experience, including bridge design, analysis, inspection, and/or load rating.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or bridge design software (e.g., OpenBridge, BrR, LEAP, Mathcad, or BRASS).
  • Understanding of standard bridge materials - steel, prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, timber, and modular bridge systems.
  • Exposure to bridge inspection (NBIS qualifications) or load rating is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design calculations for bridge design, rehabilitation, and replacement projects under the guidance of senior bridge engineers.
  • Assist with bridge inspection, condition evaluation, and load rating tasks, as needed.
  • Prepare and review bridge structural drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D, and bridge design software (e.g., OpenBridge, BrR, LEAP, Mathcad, or BRASS).
  • Apply AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and applicable state and federal bridge design criteria, with guidance from senior staff.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams - roadway, hydraulics, geotechnical, survey, environmental, and construction - to develop practical, constructible bridge solutions.
  • Coordinate with local project teams and colleagues across DJ&A's offices to deliver high-quality bridge designs nationwide.
  • Support field assessments, bridge inspections, site visits, and construction observation as needed.
  • Assist senior engineers with QA/QC review of bridge structural deliverables.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical project partners.
  • Manage time and priorities effectively across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Engage in continuous learning of bridge design techniques, software, and industry best practices, with a proactive approach to professional growth.
