STATEMENT OF THE AGENCY

Commonpoint is a non‑profit, multi‑service agency with flagship sites in Little Neck, Bayside, Forest Hills, East Elmhurst, Jamaica, and Crotona (Bronx), as well as 80 additional sites throughout the community. These sites provide a diverse array of programs and services to over 85,000 individuals. STATEMENT OF THE POSITION

Within our framework of a holistic, strength‑focused, and family‑supported practice, an individual hired as the Bridge Coach plays a vital role in supporting the College Counselor at Martin Van Buren High School. They will be responsible for working with graduating high school students in getting them to apply and matriculate into college.

Qualifications
  • Attending college in New York City
  • Understanding of the obstacles students encounter in applying to and registering for college
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with facilitation/running workshops
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility/adaptability and willingness to be a team player
  • Commitment to the work of college access
  • Completed at least one year of college (preferred)
Responsibilities
  • Attending all College Bridge hybrid training
  • Facilitating workshops for seniors throughout the year
  • Assisting students with paperwork and tasks involved in applying for college and career opportunities, including search, application, and enrollment process
  • Support students through the financial aid application and verification process
  • Tracking student progress through application and matriculation steps
  • Helping plan and lead school‑wide events and trips related to the college process
  • Attending weekly meetings with a college counselor to review all graduating seniors’ status in the college process and issues to be aware of
  • Assisting students with the paperwork involved in enrolling in post‑secondary destinations by communicating with graduating seniors on a regular basis by phone/text, social media, and in person.
  • Tracking student progress through application and matriculation steps.
  • Meeting weekly with the supervisor.
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor.
General Tasks of Commonpoint Queens Staff
  • Promote and implement the Core Values of the Community Center.
  • Participation in all staff meetings and staff training seminars.
  • Participation in agency‑wide programs and program committees, as assigned.
  • Active involvement, as a supervisee, in the supervision process.
  • Support the mission of Commonpoint Queens
  • Other tasks appropriate to Commonpoint Queens staff, as assigned.
