Job summary

Bulloch County Schools in Statesboro, Georgia is seeking a Special Education Parent Mentor to bridge home, school, and community for families of students with disabilities. The role supports communication and collaboration with educators and local agencies to improve student outcomes.

The position is part-time (10 months, 190 days) and reports to the Executive Director of Special Education Services. It advances family engagement through GaDOE initiatives and district partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Must be a parent of a child with a disability who has received special education services via an IEP.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people.

Responsibilities

  • Family Outreach & Communication: compile and distribute a monthly parent newsletter; guide local resources and navigate school-home communication; assist in planning for life after school.
  • Collaboration & Community Engagement: partner with mentors and agencies for workshops; serve on district committees.
  • Target Group Focus & Reporting: provide training for self-determination; maintain records and submit quarterly reports to GaDOE.
  • Professional Development: attend GaPMP conferences and regional meetings; participate in trainings.
