Job summary

The Brew & Processing Manager at Milo’s Tea Company leads daily brewing operations to meet quality, safety, and production goals. You will manage compliance with FDA regulations, HACCP, and SQF standards, and guide scheduling to align with production targets.

You’ll build a high-performance culture, develop the team, and own staffing, overtime budgets, and departmental costs, all while supporting a 24/7 on-site operation in Spartanburg, SC.

The Brew & Processing Manager

The Brew & Processing Manager leads daily brewing operations to meet quality, safety, and production goals, manages compliance with relevant safety and food standards, oversees brew scheduling to meet production targets, maintains equipment and sanitation practices, and fosters a high-performance team culture. The Brew & Processing Manager serves as back-up to the Manufacturing Manager providing compliance support, operational excellence oversight, and leadership development of the production teams, in addition to their primary responsibility of the brew operation. Must be able to work a flexible, on-site schedule to support the 24/7 operation, including some night shift coverage. Work schedule will start on a split shift, ensuring night-shift leadership coverage until 9pm Mon-Thur. at a minimum.

Responsibilities
  • Lead safety, quality, and efficiency initiatives across brewing and processing to ensure consistent product flow.
  • Maintain compliance with FDA regulations, HACCP requirements, Food Safety Plans, and SQF standards.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on brewing and processing equipment, technology, and recipe-management systems; guide integration of new flavors, blends, and concentrate processes.
  • Build and sustain a High-Performance Work System (HPWS) that supports the brew team’s development, performance, and long-term alignment with business growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement to optimize tea brewing and CIP systems, improving consistency, product quality, waste reduction, and productivity using established KPIs utilizing Red Zone technology to track performance.
  • Coordinate brewing and processing schedules with production needs to ensure accurate forecasting of product supply and demand.
  • Standardize processes with brew and batching to minimize variation, produce predictable, repeatable results, while owning the improvement of yield and scrap.
  • Oversee processing and brew CIP activities for brew equipment, including sanitation procedures and management of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  • Ensure proper functioning of all brewing CIP equipment through routine checks using tools such as chart recorders, HDMI screens, 3D TRASAR, chemical titrations, and third-party support.
  • Manage chemical ordering and usage, including inventory, storage and removal of empty containers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient brewing environment aligned with sustainability and environmental goals.
  • Responsible for the operational startup of new brewing and batching processes and equipment in collaboration with engineering teams and external vendors.
  • Lead the development and training of associates within the department.
  • Manages staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage for operation while managing set overtime budget.
  • Builds and oversees budget for the department and works with site Controller and Plant Director to ensure department costs meet plan.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Operations Management, Chemical Science, or Engineering preferred; or five years of related experience in a salaried leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Supervisory experience leading a team of >10 associates, ideally in a High-Performance Work System environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and present information to employees or customers.

The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in areas that may involve exposure to noise, hot surfaces, high-pressure equipment, and cleaning chemicals, while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, goggles, and aprons. Requires attention to detail and the ability to follow established safety protocols to ensure effective and safe cleaning processes.
