Job summary

Half Acre Beer Co. is seeking a Laboratory and Sensory Technician to support daily production sampling and the sensory program within the Quality Department.

The role performs routine microbiological, molecular, chemical, and sensory tasks and maintains accurate records under supervision. This position reports to the Quality Manager and involves preparing media, aseptic sampling, data entry in DraughtLab, and ensuring SOP compliance.

Qualifications

• 4‑year college degree in microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or food science, OR equivalent lab experience.
• Proficiency in aseptic technique and lab duties.
• Interest in sensory science and craft beer is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitor lab reagents, media, and consumables; communicate needs to leads.
• Maintain clean, organized lab environment; sanitize labware.
• Prepare culture media and plates for analysis; collect samples aseptically.
• Perform routine yeast counts and viability testing; monitor slurry history.
• Conduct microbial enrichment and qPCR testing; escalate unusual results.
• Collect fermentation and microbiology samples and record results.
• Enter lab data into systems and ensure proper documentation.
• Support sensory sessions and DraughtLab data entry.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and lab housekeeping.
