Job summary

Kellogg Center is seeking a Student Food Service Assistant to support Breslin Center for MSU basketball teams and staff. You will assist with food preparation, serving, and general kitchen tasks while adhering to food safety standards and delivering strong customer service.

Typical shifts run Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm, with additional hours possible. Applicants must be MSU students, able to work 15-20 hours weekly, and work well independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work 15-20 hours per week.
• Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year).
• Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service.
• Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
• Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population.
• Be able to work Monday through Friday 4 pm to 8 pm.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation and serving for Breslin Center, MSU basketball teams and staff.
• Help with dishes, cleaning, and kitchen duties (sweeping, mopping, trash/recycling).
• Follow food safety regulations and guidelines to ensure safe handling of meals.
• Coordinate with supervisors and other student team members to complete shifts.
• Other duties as assigned, including supporting chefs when needed.

Job Description

Location: Breslin Center Recruiting Lounge for the MSU basketball teams

Pay rate: $16.00

As a Student Food Service Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting full-time staff members with the preparation, cooking, and serving of food for the Breslin Center Recruiting Lounge serving the MSU basketball teams and staff, helping with dishes, cleaning, running recycling/trash, sweeping, mopping, etc, serve food and light duty prep and support the chefs when needed. You must also be knowledgeable of all relevant food safety regulations, standards, and guidelines to ensure the safe handling and serving of all meals to customers. It is your job to make sure the guests of Culinary Services receive the most outstanding customer service

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

• Kitchen clean up after meals are served: dishes, cleaning, running recycling/trash, sweeping, mopping, etc.
• Serve food/light duty prep
• Support the Chefs and cook where needed
• Communicate with supervisors, managers and other student team members
• Coordinate with supervisor’s job tasks that need to be completed each shift
• Other duties as assigned
• Monday through Friday 4 pm to 8 pm, with opportunity for more hours if desired

Work Hours

• Must be able to work Monday through Friday 4 pm to 8 pm
• During the school year domestic student employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week, and international student employees may not work more than 20 hours per work week
• During school breaks, between semesters, and during summer semester, all student employees are permitted to work up to 40 hours per work week.
