Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sow physiology, life cycle and factors affecting health and reproduction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with automated feeding systems.
  • Environmental requirements of females and boars.
  • Ability to communicate well with other breeding department personnel.
  • Respect and care for all animals and personnel.
  • High school diploma or GED required with Associate degree from agricultural or technical school with a major in animal production desired.

Responsibilities

  • Effective communication with all personnel in breeding department to ensure a safe, enjoyable and productive department.
  • Provide input to supervisor for ideas to maintain or increase productivity.
  • Perform matings as instructed.
  • Ensure fresh feed is available for all animals
  • Ensure adequate water flow is available
  • Ensure thorough heat detection of females
  • Ensure adequate boar exposure to stimulate females
  • Maintain correct environment for sows and boars
  • Perform proper and timely sow treatments and vaccinations.
  • Maintain proper bio-security in breeding department.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure sow cards are timely and accurately completed.
  • Follow all production protocols and procedures.

Objective


Support Breeding Department Supervisor to achieve production targets.


Responsibilities:


  • Effective communication with all personnel in breeding department to ensure a safe, enjoyable and productive department.

Production Responsibilities


  • Perform matings as instructed.
