Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking a Breastfeeding Support Worker under the supervision of the Breastfeeding Coordinator. You will promote breastfeeding across the community, workplaces, and health care systems and provide direct support to WIC participants.

Responsibilities include contacting moms post-delivery, maintaining confidential records, and referring complex cases to a Breastfeeding Expert.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; experience in human/social services preferred.
• Breastfeeding curriculum Level 1 training or willingness to complete.
• Ability to work with mothers from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Contact WIC breastfeeding moms in hospital, at home, or by telephone to provide support.
• Make regular follow-up contacts after birth and maintain records with confidentiality.
• Refer complex cases to the Breastfeeding Coordinator or designated expert.
• Assist with prenatal contacts and provide breastfeeding information and resources.
• Work as part of a team to support breastfeeding mothers and families.
