Job summary

City of Joplin is seeking a breastfeeding paraprofessional to provide information, support, and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. You will counsel, assist with pumps, and record interactions in MOWINS while promoting best practices through WIC services.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, personal breastfeeding experience, and a valid driver’s license. Office-based with occasional classes; post-offer background check, physical, and drug test are required, plus

Qualifications

• Knowledge of breastfeeding techniques and practices; documenting interactions in electronic records.
• Strong communication about breastfeeding benefits and solutions to common barriers.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and work with WIC/MOWINS data systems.

Responsibilities

• Counsels pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers by telephone and in WIC offices as scheduled.
• Provides information and support for common maternal and infant breastfeeding problems.
• Issues and documents pumps; processes and scans paperwork in the MOWINS system.
• Contacts Lactation staff when guidance beyond scope is needed.
• Responds to breastfeeding issues after hours when available via hotline.
• Maintains accurate participant records in MOWINS and other databases.
• May teach prenatal and breastfeeding classes with approved lesson plans.
• May assist with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.
• Reads assigned breastfeeding materials provided by supervisor.
• Supports WIC staff on special projects and confidential duties as assigned.
• Maintains confidentiality of participants and records as required by policy and law.
