Job summary

Whitney M. Young Jr Health Center provides high quality healthcare to a diverse community and supports the WIC program with Breastfeeding Peer Counselors. The role focuses on counseling, education, and outreach for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The position can be part-time (20 hours) or full-time (40 hours), offering a robust benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401k, tuition reimbursement, and commuter benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have breastfed at least one child in the past 5 years.
• Reliable access to the WIC clinic phone.
• Must have transportation to keep program commitments.
• Completion of the WYH WIC Peer Counselor Training Program before counseling begins.

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face counseling and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women.
• Maintain contact with WIC participants by phone on a routine basis.
• Meet with prenatal and breastfeeding women via clinic, phone, email, or text.
• Offer individual and group breastfeeding classes.
• Document contacts and education in NYWIC notes within two hours of contact.
• Assist with outreach activities and breastfeeding projects.
