Job summary

Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency seeks a paraprofessional Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the WIC program. Under supervision, you will share basic breastfeeding information and encouragement while coordinating with clinic staff.

Under the supervision of the Clinic Supervisor and the working direction of the Public Health Registered Nurse designated as Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Supervisor, functions as a paraprofessional support person giving basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers enrolled in the WIC program.

Employment Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience.

Experience & Required Skills:

• Must have breast-fed one baby for a minimum of 6 months
• Enthusiastic about breastfeeding and desire to help other mothers
• Familiar with WIC (a current or previous WIC client preferred)
• Good communication and organizational skills

Special Requirement: Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation, as work-related travel between offices is required.

Salary and Fringe Benefits:

This is a part-time position located in the Coldwater Office; 40 hours per two-week pay period with a starting wage of $16.42 per hour.
