Job summary

Tri-County Community Action Agency in Atlantic City, NJ is seeking a Full Time WIC Program Assistant to provide breastfeeding information, support, and education to clients. The role includes prenatal and postpartum classes, travel across the service area, and routine client caseload management.

Responsibilities

• Provide breastfeeding information, benefits, barriers, and issue resolution to women.
• Conduct prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding support classes via group, individual, telephone, home visits or hospital visits.
• Make routine contacts with clients assigned to caseload.
• Determine eligibility, perform health screenings, prepare charts, answer calls, schedule appointments, and file.
• Travel within the Gateway CAP service area as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/program manager.

Job Functions

• Provide women with basic breastfeeding information, benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers and handling common breastfeeding issues.
• Conduct prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding support classes via group or individual contacts, telephone, home visits, and/or hospital visits.
• Make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned to their caseload.
• Determine participants’ program eligibility, conduct health screenings (blood work and anthropometrics); prepare participant charts, answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and file.
• Travel within the Gateway CAP service area as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/program manager.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• One-year experience with administrative duties and computer literate.
• Excellent customer service skills, reliable, able to work with children, and comfortable in a high paced environment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Bilingual (Spanish, Creole, or Vietnamese speaking) highly desirable.

• Exclusive breastfeeding experience of at least six months.
• Completion of NJ WIC Services breastfeeding Peer Counselor training with a grade of at least 80%.
