Job summary

Tri-County Community Action Agency is seeking a Full Time Breastfeeding Support Counselor to provide essential breastfeeding information and support to women in Gloucester Township. Responsibilities include conducting prenatal and postpartum classes, making regular client contacts, and determining participants' program eligibility.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED, possess a valid driver’s license, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Bilingual candidates are highly desirable. Travel within the service area is required.

Qualifications

Travel Percentage: Up to 25%

Job Functions

• Provide women with basic breastfeeding information and benefits of breastfeeding, help overcome common barriers and handle breastfeeding issues.
• Conduct prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding support classes via group or individual contacts, telephone, home visits, and/or hospital visits.
• Make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned to the caseload.
• Determine participants’ program eligibility and perform health screenings (blood work and anthropometrics).
• Prepare participant charts, answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and file paperwork.
• Travel within the Gateway CAP service area.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor/program manager.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license; travel is required.
• At least one year of experience with administrative duties.
• Computer literacy.
• Excellent customer service skills; reliable and able to work with children and in a high-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Creole, or Vietnamese is highly desirable.

Other Requirements

• Exclusive breastfeeding experience of at least six months.
• Completion of NJ WIC Services breastfeeding Peer Counselor training with a grade of at least 80%.
