About You

Are you passionate about local news? Do you follow the news cycle with a razor sharp eye? Patch is seeking an editor to cover breaking news and trending topics in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In this role, you will:

• Cover breaking and statewide news across Rhode Island, reporting on urgent events as they happen. You'll also i dentify and write timely and interesting follow-ups to breaking news stories
• Develop local content for several Rhode Island Patch sites, ensuring coverage of important events, stories, and issues within those communities
• Identify and report on emerging and trending news stories in parts of Massachusetts; assist in breaking news there on an as-needed basis
• Study analytics to determine relevant and engaging stories with the intention of growing Patch's local audience via Google and social media. Have the judgment to prioritize stories based on urgency, newsworthiness and reader interest

Most important skills to have:

• Strong writing and reporting skills
• Ability to work independently
• Proficiency in social media platforms and understanding of SEO principles to promote content and maximize audience engagement
• An innate curiosity about local news and a passion for storytelling
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a remote news team

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $48,000 - $55,000 USD, commensurate with talent and experience.
