A Cook is responsible for preparing all food items based on standardized recipes for the Cafe Room Service Employee Cafeteria and Banquets while maintaining the highest standards to produce an appealing and appetizing product. They are also responsible for ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in the kitchen and work areas, while minimizing waste and maximizing cost/production ratio. The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing cold foods, shellfish, slicing meat, and brewing coffee or tea.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
- Food Handlers Certification (must comply with State requirements).
- Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
- Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
- Ability to work well under stressful, high-pressure situations.
- Maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with Hyatt standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
- Follow certification requirements relevant to the position, including Food Handlers Safety.
- Approach all guest and associate encounters with friendliness and a service-oriented attitude.
- Maintain regular attendance according to Hyatt standards and scheduling needs.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including proper uniform and name tag.
- Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
- Have thorough knowledge of menus and preparation standards.
- Keep all storage areas clean and organized.
- Complete necessary food and station preparations before opening to ensure prompt and efficient service.
- Prepare and display buffet food items according to Hyatt standards.
- Prepare food for banquets following Banquet Event Orders specifications.
- Prepare and serve food for the Employee Cafeteria as directed by the Food Production Manager.
- Follow Hyatt standard recipes for all foods; prepare specials under supervision.
- Break down buffets and kitchen lines, storing food and equipment properly after each meal.
- Work banquet food stations as scheduled.
- Know the location and operation of all fire extinguishing equipment.
- Practice safe work habits to prevent injuries.
- Familiarize with all hotel policies, house rules, and emergency procedures.
- Use Production Charts as specified by Hyatt standards.
- Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to guests, managers, and colleagues.
- Operate and maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment.
- Follow the 'Clean As You Go' policy.
- Assist with storage and rotation of food items per hotel procedures.
- Sign keys out and in under supervision as needed.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
- Ensure food is stored properly to prevent spoilage.
