Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; trade school preferred.
• Minimum 1 year brazing experience or equivalent combination of technical training and on‑the‑job experience.
• Ability to read mechanical/piping drawings and interpret diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Brazes components to join metal parts using hand torch and brazing alloy as specified.
• Removes work piece from fixture and cools using air or water.
• Cleans joints with brush or cleaning solution.
• Examines seams and rebrazes defective joints or broken parts.
• Connects hoses, regulators and cylinders of oxygen and fuel gas.
• Applies flux to prevent oxidation and selects appropriate brazing alloy.
• Aligns and secures pieces in fixtures; uses templates.
• Melts and separates brazed joints to repair damaged parts.
• Selects torch tip and brazing materials from charts or work orders.
• Looks for proper bonding temperature and adjusts current/timing when needed.
• Performs destructive examination and testing of brazed joints.
