Job summary

Bodycote plc is seeking a Braze Engineer to provide brazing and assembly process support at the plant under the General Manager. You will develop brazing systems to meet customer contracts and support sales with braze-related issues and quotations.

The role involves leading brazing activities, coordinating with plant personnel, evaluating equipment, and ensuring high quality and on-time delivery. ITAR compliance and an engineering degree are required, with at least five years in thermal brazing

Qualifications

  • Requires an engineer degree or equivalent in metallurgical, materials or welding engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years in thermal processing with emphasis on brazing (furnace/induction/torch).
  • Knowledge of heat treating, metallurgy and inspection; able to interface with multiple departments.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; read and interpret blueprints and customer specs.

  • Provide technical support to Sales and assist with braze quotations.
  • Work with customers on braze-related issues and determine suitable processes.

  • Evaluate brazing capabilities and recommend equipment upgrades or new technology.
  • Input to Quality Group regarding brazing processes and ensure on-time shipping with quality.

Job description

Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety-sensitive.

Summary

The Braze Engineer provides brazing and assembly process assistance to the plant under the direction of the General Manager. He/she is responsible for the development of brazing systems and technology to ensure that services are provided meet the contractual requirements established by customers and procedures. He/she is also responsible for supporting the sales function with braze related issues and quotations.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following.

  • Directs activities of braze and maintains appropriate braze staffing as needed to meet company goals
  • Work with plant personnel to evaluate and solve braze related issues.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and assist with braze related quotations.
  • Works with customers with braze related issues.
  • Develop new brazing processes for new work, select the appropriate plant for it, place the work, and train plant employees in accordance with BMS requirements.
  • Evaluate plant brazing capabilities as needed to recommend new equipment, equipment upgrades, or new technology.
  • Provide input to the Quality Group with respect to brazing processes.
  • Ensures customers’ needs are appropriately met by shipping to schedule with minimum turnaround time and a high degree of quality, working closely with the Quality Manager.
  • Responsible for enforcing company handbook and communicates with Office Manager and/or General Manager on matters relating to discipline.
  • Responsible for purchasing and/or approving materials for shop, facilities, tooling, fixtures, etc., under the guidance of the General Manager.
  • Participates in staff meetings as a member of management.
  • Must work in a manner consistent with the EMS.
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
  • Performs other duties as dictated by position or required by the General Manager.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Qualifications

  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
  • Education: Engineer Degree or (equivalent experience) in metallurgical, materials, or welding engineering.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in thermal process processing with emphasis on brazing processes (furnace, induction, or torch, etc.).
  • Knowledge of heat treating, operations management, metallurgy, inspection and customer needs through technical and advanced training, seminars, college, B.S.M.E. (metallurgy) and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Language skills: Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and written, including reports as required, attend staff meetings and interface with other departments.
  • Must be knowledgeable of tooling needs and costs. Tooling design experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and customer specifications.
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.
Physical & Mental Demands

The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.

  • Must be able to work in a sitting and/or standing position for extended periods of time in an office/industrial environment
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions
  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone
Compensation

The pay range for this position is $105,000 – $115,000 per year. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is classified as exempt and paid on a salary basis.

Incentive Compensation

This position is eligible for annual bonus plan/sales incentive plan based on performance measures and targets aligned with the company’s strategic goals and direction.
