Job summary

Performance Contracting Group seeks an entry-level Branch Safety Engineer for PCI Des Moines 587 in Des Moines, IA. You will train and coach workers to uphold the Target Zero Accident Prevention Plan and foster a collaborative safety culture.

Responsibilities include implementing safety plans, conducting site inspections, promoting safe practices, and coordinating with clients on safety management. Degree in OH&S or related field, and OSHA/MSHA/EPA knowledge are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Entry-level experience in construction safety.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel/Word).
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and meet deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills and client relationship ability.
  • Understanding of OSHA, MSHA, EPA and other safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and mitigate safety hazards both routine and non-routine.
  • Conduct job site inspections for compliance with safety policies.
  • Promote safe work practices through coaching and engagement.

  • Review safety reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Submit safety reports and documentation to PCG and clients.
  • Act as liaison between the company and clients on site safety.
  • Establish branch/project safety goals and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate and approve safety equipment and PPE.

Job Description

Performance Contracting is seeking an entry-level Branch Safety Engineer for its PCI Des Moines 587 operations based in Des Moines, IA. The Primary responsibility of this role will be to train and coach workers to ensure compliance with the PCI Target Zero Accident Prevention Plan while creating a collaborative safety culture.

Job Responsibilities Include
  • Assist with implementing and administering PCG and client accident prevention plans, policies, and procedures
  • Provide safety technical expertise, training, and supporting resources to the branch and workers
  • Anticipate, identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety and health hazards, both routine and non-routine
  • Conduct job site inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety policies, procedures, and accident prevention plans
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices among all employees through coaching and ongoing safety engagement
  • Investigate and report work-related injuries, illnesses, and near-miss incidents, enforcing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Review all safety incidents and investigation reports to verify accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure timely submission of PCG and client safety & accident reports, statistics, and documentation
  • Act as a liaison between the company and clients regarding site safety management
  • Establish branch and project safety goals while ensuring adherence to safety regulations
  • Evaluate and approve safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)

Salary Range: $70,000-$92,000 annual salary plus non-guaranteed annualized bonus program.

This position is safety-sensitive.

Basic Requirements
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, a related discipline, or comparable work experience
  • Entry level experience working in construction safety
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • A clear understanding of how to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new skills by engaging in technical job functions and applying new skills as they are taught
  • Strong customer service skills and an ability to build lasting client relationships
  • Must have critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to work under pressure and deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize projects and daily activities
  • General knowledge of trade tools, equipment, and materials used in the construction industry
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations and construction safety standards
Preferred Requirements
  • OSHA certification
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals credential (e.g., CHST, ASP, CSP) is a plus
  • Bilingual - English & spanish
  • Training experience is preferred
