Job summary

Kent District Library is seeking a Branch Librarian to provide professional librarian services across various branch duties. Responsibilities include reference, information services, interlibrary loans, and user instruction using ILS and digital databases.

The role emphasizes community outreach, program planning, and staff/training support. MLS or equivalent is required with diverse experience; travel between branches may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Master's in Library Science or related field required, or Bachelor's degree plus 5 years relevant experience, or high school diploma plus 10 years applicable service.
• Ability to travel between work locations as needed.
• Strong knowledge of public library operations and reference interviewing.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and information services to library patrons, including answering questions about collections, services and policies.
• Conduct research to obtain information; process interlibrary loans; assist patrons with databases and online tools.
• Assist patrons in searching for materials using ILS, databases, and internet resources; support technology tutorials.
• Participate in blogging and social media to support library initiatives.
• Maintain and shift collection materials; communicate needs to Collection Development staff.
• Instruct and assist staff, volunteers, and patrons with library equipment and basic tech support.
