University of Washington Medical Center is seeking a Research Scientist/Engineer 2 for the BRaIN Lab to support human brain research from donation to tissue analysis. Requires a bachelor’s degree with neuroscience/biology coursework and neuroanatomy experience; two years in related biospecimen handling

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with coursework in neuroscience, anatomy, biology or related field and two years of experience as a grossing technician or procurement experience.
• Neuroanatomy background (performing dissections on human or animal models) or related biospecimen handling experience.
• Preferred experience in autopsy pathology, tissue dissection, and brain procurement is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex donor brain procurement, dissection, preservation and analysis with on-call team.
• Direct junior staff to ensure correct procedures are followed.
• Independently dissect and assess key anatomical structures for histopathology with minimal supervision.
• Prepare, process, and ship specimens accurately under defined requirements.
• Support in silico 3D reconstructions and tissue/fluids immunoassays.
