Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools is seeking a head athletic coach for a high school program in Riverside. The role leads varsity and junior varsity teams, guides training, and collaborates with the athletic director to uphold high standards and safety for all student athletes.

Season runs Spring: February–May. You will supervise assistants, organize schedules, monitor eligibility, and promote sportsmanship while coordinating with the athletic department to ensure medical exams and proper facilities

Qualifications

• Coaching experience or participation at high school or college level.
• CPR and First Aid certification or enrollment in training.
• Prefer experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
• Prefer Virginia Teaching License or full-time LCPS classified employee status.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining high academic standards for student athletes.
• Assist athletic director and principal in hiring/retention of assistant coaches.
• Direct, supervise, and evaluate performance of all assistant coaches.
• Work with athletic director to ensure proper insurance coverage for athletes.
• Collaborate with head coaches to run a balanced athletic program.
• Foster values of athletics, sportsmanship, pride in school and community.
• Direct training, conditioning, and performance of varsity teams; supervise assistants.
• Set a positive example for behavior of athletic staff and teams.
• Be present at varsity contests and as many JV/Freshmen contests as possible; supervise at meets.
• Advise on schedules for the sport and on officials.
• Recommend equipment and supplies; manage inventory and care of equipment.
• Inform athletic director about facilities condition and maintenance needs.
• Ensure eligible players lists are prepared under VHSL rules.
• Recommend removal of athletes failing training/eligibility rules.
• Ensure medical exams are completed before practice season begins.
• Organize recruitment and support roles (managers, statisticians, etc.).
• Maintain records, statistics, news items, and photos for teams.
