Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Washington state is hiring a coaching assistant to support the head coach and athletic program. The role requires supervision of student athletes, assisting in preparing athletes for competition, and enforcing safety and discipline.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and some coaching experience; must be at least 19 years of age (WIAA regulation).
  • First Aid Certificate, CPR card and AED training are required.
  • Red Cross Safety Training or Lifeguard certification is also required for swimming, diving and water polo coaches.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises student athletes to promote learning through participation in athletic activities.
  • Assists the head coach in preparing athletes physically and mentally for contests; administers discipline fairly and safely.
  • Oversees practice sessions to develop athletes' potential; teaches fundamental skills; promotes good sportsmanship; follows Coaches’ Handbook regulations.
  • Follows district procedures for handling injuries; oversees equipment issuance and inventory; maintains records.
