Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking an assistant coach to support the head coach in advancing the athletic program. The position requires supervision of student athletes, adherence to district and WIAA policies, and a focus on safety and fair discipline.

Expected Start Date: tentatively 11/2/2026, Season Dates: Winter Session (tentatively Nov 2026–Mar 2027). Salary is $29.60 per hour and the job is not benefits eligible.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and some coaching experience; at least 19 years old per WIAA regulation.
• First Aid Certificate, CPR, AED training required.
• Red Cross Safety Training or Lifeguard certification required for swimming, diving and water polo coaches.

Responsibilities

• Supervises student athletes to promote effective learning through participation in athletic activities.
• Assists head coach in preparing athletes physically and mentally to participate with confidence; administers discipline fairly while emphasizing safety.
• Assists in overseeing practice sessions to develop athletes' greatest potential, teaches basic skills, and promotes good sportsmanship.
• Follows district procedures for handling injuries and maintains equipment records and inventories.
