Job summary

Longmeadow High School is seeking a Boys JV Ice Hockey Head Coach to guide student-athletes in developing skills and character in a competitive, educational setting. The role reports to the Principal through the Director of Athletics and involves after-school/evening commitments as part of the Longmeadow Educators Association framework.

The ideal candidate will bring instructional leadership, planning for competition, and a commitment to high standards of knowledge, skills, and sportsmanship

Qualifications

• Educational preparation relevant to area of instruction.
• Prior relevant successful experience preferred.
• Such other qualifications or alternatives as the Principal and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.
• Set short-term and season-long goals for their sport based on sound principles and practices of learning.
• Develop and maintain practice schedules based on short-term and season-long goals and share when appropriate.
• Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase player skills.
• Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all players achieve those standards.
• Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.
• Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among players and coach, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.
• Design instructional experiences in which players achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
• Maintain open and effective communication with players, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
• Be available for player and/or parent conferences.
• Work collaboratively to identify areas for athletic improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.
• Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the athletic program.
