Job summary

Catholic Diocese of Rockford is seeking a Boys & Girls Track Head Coach to lead a competitive, faith-centered cross country program, plan practices, supervise meets, and develop training that promotes student-athlete growth and sportsmanship within IHSA regulations. The coach must embody the values of the school and serve as a positive role model.

The coach is expected to be available in afternoons, evenings, and weekends to support a demanding high school schedule, build positive relationships

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Knowledge of the technical aspects of track and field, with openness to new theories.
• Acts as a positive role model for student athletes.

• Organizes preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players, and guests.

• Maintains good public relations with local media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.

Description

The Boys & Girls Track Head Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive and faith-centered cross country program that promotes student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, teamwork, and excellence. The coach plans and conducts practices, supervises competitions, develops training programs, fosters positive relationships with athletes and families, and ensures compliance with school, conference, and IHSA regulations. The Head Coach serves as a positive role model, supporting the academic, spiritual, and athletic development of student-athletes while promoting the mission and values of the school.

The coach must be available during afternoons, evenings, and weekends to support the demands of a rigorous high school athletic schedule, including practices, meets, team events, and other program-related responsibilities.

Requirements

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
• The coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.
• This position does not include benefits.

Reports To

The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

Job Goal

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.

• Responsible for the quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written release to local media.
• Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
