Job summary

Windham Public Schools in Windham, CT, is seeking a qualified coach to train student athletes, promote fair play, and foster teamwork, discipline, and a positive attitude across athletic programs.

You will assess players' skills, assign positions, teach rules and techniques, monitor academic eligibility, confer with parents as needed, manage equipment, and represent the program in the community while ensuring safety and professional conduct.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Connecticut Coaching Certificate (or eligibility); Current First Aid/CPR/AED Training; CTCoaching Module #15 Certificate.
  • Two years coaching experience, preferred.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, on rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during practice and competition to determine needs for improvement.
  • Determines game strategies based on team capabilities.
  • Monitors academic performance to ensure eligibility.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
  • Promotes good public relations and communicates with news media and booster clubs.

Job description

Position Description

Position is responsible for coaching student athletes to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions as requested/required.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategies based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Assists in maintaining standards of pupil behavior and providing proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations as requested/required.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents.
  • Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
