Job summary

Windham Public Schools is looking for a dedicated coach to mentor student athletes and promote sportsmanship within the school community.

You will assess players, assign positions, teach game rules and techniques, monitor academics for eligibility, and ensure safety and positive conduct during practices and contests. Collaboration with staff and parents is essential.

Qualifications

  • Two years' coaching experience; preferred
  • Connecticut Coaching Certificate or eligibility; First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Knowledge of sport rules, strategies and techniques
  • Ability to communicate and supervise effectively

Responsibilities

  • Participates in team prospect meetings and recruits athletes.
  • Assesses player skills and assigns positions as needed.
  • Coaches players on rules, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players to identify individual or team improvement needs.
  • Determines game strategies based on team capabilities.
  • Monitors academic performance to ensure eligibility.
  • Follows injury procedures and maintains safety.
  • Communicates with parents about athletic performance.
  • Promotes the sport to media, booster clubs, and community groups.
  • Oversees equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • participates in events like parents' night and awards.

Job description

Position Description

Position is responsible for coachingstudent athletes to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

Essential Functions
  • Participates in organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • Assesses player's skills and assigns team positions as requested/required
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategies based on the team's capabilities.
  • Assist in maintaining standards of pupil behavior and providing proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations as requested/required
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.

  • Must possess knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport
