Good rapport and demonstrated competency are invaluable for the coach.
  2. Cooperation
The district and school expect the highest level of cooperation by all coaches and athletic staff members in executing their duties. Coaches must work cooperatively with their school athletic director, administration, other staff, team, and parents.
  3. Leadership and Public Relations
Diligence, enthusiasm, integrity, honesty, and a love for the game are all part of the professional pride that any coach should exhibit. Personal appearance, dress (including proper coaching attire and shoes), physical condition, etc. should be exemplary. Public demeanor and decorum should always reflect positively on the coach, team, athletic department, school, and community.
  4. Discipline
Every athletic team requires high discipline among coaches, players, and support staff. In this regard, implementing discipline and the attitude with which it is implemented is the coach’s responsibility. Individually, the coach becomes a model of all that the program represents—observing school codes, rules of the game, ideals of good sportsmanship, and the behavior of participants throughout the season, especially where the student body is concerned. Desire to do well, to win gracefully, and to lose with poise and a positive attitude should be emphasized. Staff, players, and spectators should be motivated to achieve established goals as a team and individual players.

Membership should be maintained in professional organizations, coaches’ associations, and similar groups whose programs are geared toward greater achievement and improved performance. The coach should be fair, unprejudiced with players, and sensitive to individual differences, needs, interests, temperaments, attitudes, and tolerances.
  2. To the school and district
A coach has a high visibility in the community and may greatly impact the athlete, the home, the workplace, and community organizations. A coach’s actions should constantly create confidence in the coach, the school, and the district.
A coach always owes their school maximal effort and loyalty. They must constantly strive for excellence throughout the program, department, and school.
A coach should treat the faculty, staff, and student body with dignity and respect.

Disagreements with fellow coaches should be discussed privately and promptly.
The head coach should expect all staff to contribute a full measure of time, effort, thought, and energy to the program. Expectations should be communicated clearly in advance of the season. Assistant coaches should be valued and praised appropriately for their contributions to the success of the program.
Assistant coaches should have a strong sense of allegiance to the program. They must be willing and able to do things that they may not wish to do or even like to do. They must fulfill their responsibility to the head coach, the athletes, and the sport itself. 6. To faculty members
A coach is expected to cooperate with every faculty member. If the coach cooperates with the teachers of academic subjects by allowing an athlete to make up a test or homework during practice time, respect for the athletic program, coaching staff, and the values of athletics will be significantly enhanced.
