Sylvania is looking for a dedicated coach for Harrison K-8 School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for student development, fostering sportsmanship, and building rapport with the community.
This role requires a valid Colorado teacher certification and a commitment to ethical coaching principles. A strong leader and excellent communicator is essential for this one-year contract position, as the coach will work collaboratively with faculty and parents.

Salary: Stipend is based on the Supplemental Salary Schedule, position, and years of experience: Starting supplemental range from $1,953-$3,094

A coach must develop good rapport with numerous individuals and community groups: team personnel, the student body, the professional staff, the community as a whole, spectators, officials, fellow coaches in the conference, media representatives, and the parents of their players. Good rapport and demonstrated competency are invaluable for the coach.
The district and school expect the highest level of cooperation by all coaches and athletic staff members. Coaches must work cooperatively with their school athletic director, administration, other staff, team, and parents.
Diligence, enthusiasm, integrity, honesty, and a passion for the game are essential components of the professional pride that any coach should embody. Personal appearance, including proper coaching attire and shoes, physical condition, and other relevant factors, should be exemplary. The public demeanor should always reflect positively on the coach, team, athletic department, school, and community.
Every athletic team requires a high level of discipline among coaches, players, and support staff. The coach’s responsibility includes implementing discipline, observing school codes, rules of the game, and ideals of good sportsmanship, and monitoring participants’ behavior, especially regarding the student body. A positive attitude should be emphasized in winning, losing, and achieving both team and individual goals.
Coaches must constantly seek self‑improvement: attend district meetings, rules clinics, workshops, and training opportunities; maintain memberships in professional organizations; and stay current with professional literature and enrichment materials. This ongoing development is expected.
The coach promotes and teaches ethical, aggressive, and fair play while stressing good sportsmanship at all times.
The coach is responsible for teaching skills and techniques, modeling behavior, monitoring academic performance, and aiding overall personal development.
The coach should be fair, unbiased, and sensitive to individual differences and needs.
A coach has high visibility in the community and serves to build confidence in the coach, school, and district.
Coaching efforts should reflect trust, support for the faculty and staff, and loyalty to the school and district.
A coach at Canon City Schools should pursue professional growth in both teaching and athletics, participating in opportunities whenever possible.
While the head coach leads, assistant coaches are encouraged to think independently and communicate openly.
Disagreements should be discussed privately in a timely manner, and expectations should be clearly communicated before the season begins.
Coaches should support, promote, and collaborate with all other coaches and activity sponsors to ensure overall program wellbeing.
Regular communication about off‑season schedules helps athletes participate in diverse activities.
A coach is expected to cooperate with every faculty member, facilitating academic accommodations when possible to respect the athletic program’s values.
Coaches maintain practice areas and locker rooms, store equipment properly, keep spaces locked, file maintenance requests, and demonstrate pride in facilities.
