Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor to lead group exercise classes that support members' health and fitness goals. You will develop and instruct classes for all levels, reinforce sound fitness principles, and work with trainers to implement health and safety policies.

The role requires English communication, CPR/First Aid certification (or within 45 days), and prior group exercise teaching experience.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and communicate in English; Spanish a plus.
• One year or more experience teaching group exercise programs preferred.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification required or to be obtained within 45 days.
• Complete Safe From Harm Training and keep current as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop and instruct exercise classes for all fitness levels.
• Instruct with sound fitness principles.
• Teach beginners through advanced learners in fitness programs.
• Provide individual and group guidelines for fitness development.
• Critique and provide feedback on participants' performance.
• Develop, implement and evaluate group exercise programs toward outcomes.
• Maintain open communication with the Fitness Manager on scheduling.
• Maintain professional demeanor with students, staff and management.
• Communicate any classroom changes to participants promptly.
• Conduct program evaluations as directed.
• Implement safety measures to ensure health and safety of participants.
• Collaborate with Fitness Manager and trainers on health policies and risk assessments.
• Adhere to Safe from Harm policies and safety standards.
• Maintain a safe working environment and report facility issues.
• Generate accident/incident reports as required.
