Job summary

Andover Public Schools in Kansas seeks an athletic coach to lead student-athletes in accordance with district policies and KSHSAA rules. A licensed teacher or eligibility for Rule 10 approval is required, along with CPR/AED and first aid certification and a valid driver's license.

The coach will oversee tryouts, plan practices, schedule contests, supervise equipment and inventory, manage budgets, and promote safety, sportsmanship, and character development.

Qualifications

• Licensed teacher or eligible for Rule 10 approval through KSHSAA.
• First aid, CPR and AED certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Oversees tryouts and selects participants in accordance with established guidelines.
• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport.
• Plans and schedules a regular program of practice.
• Works with Activity Director/Assistant Principal to schedule contests, practices, meets, and competitions.
• Recommends equipment, supplies, and uniforms for purchase.
• Prepares and adheres to approved budget.
• Maintains attendance forms, insurance records, physical forms, and other required paperwork.
• Oversees safety conditions of the facility and athletes.
• Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.
• Attends required KSHSAA meetings and fulfills test requirements.
• Transports participants as needed.
• Maintains inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
• Communicates effectively and promotes positive relationships.
• Informs students, families, and community about policies and team rules; compiles a team handbook.
• Implements policies focused on character education and development.
• Ensures compliance with building athletic eligibility policies and academic progress.
• Works to transition students to college athletic opportunities.
• Distributes and cares for equipment.
• Establishes injury prevention program.
• Ensures supervision for contests, meets, and practices.
• Submits budget requests to building principal.
• Supervises participants after practice, meets, or games until transportation home is secured.
• Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches.
