Job summary

Selby Jennings in Detroit is seeking an Investment Banking Analyst / Associate to support the execution of M&A advisory, capital raising, and strategic engagements for founder-owned, family-owned, and PE-backed businesses in the lower middle market.

You will build detailed financial models, prepare client materials, conduct market research, and coordinate due diligence while liaising with senior bankers on live transactions.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of investment banking, transaction advisory, valuation, corporate development, or other relevant financial services experience
• Strong foundation in accounting, corporate finance, and valuation methodologies
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline

Responsibilities

• Support the execution of M&A advisory, capital raising, and strategic advisory engagements
• Build and maintain detailed financial models, valuation analyses, and operating models
• Prepare pitch books, confidential information presentations, management presentations, and other client-facing materials
• Conduct company, industry, and market research to support transaction and business development efforts
• Assist in the preparation of buyer and investor lists, outreach materials, and transaction process management
• Coordinate due diligence processes and data room management
• Analyze financial statements, operating metrics, and strategic alternatives to develop actionable recommendations for clients
• Participate in client meetings, management presentations, and investor discussions
• Work closely with senior bankers throughout all stages of transaction execution
