Job summary

Komatsu in Indiana is seeking an experienced machinist to set up and operate machine shop equipment for fabricating and repairing metal parts. You will work with horizontal boring mills, lathes, drill presses, and grinders, reading prints and applying precise measurements to ensure parts meet specifications.

The role requires practical CNC programming, blueprint reading, and a solid foundation in math, safety training, and ISO awareness.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Certified Machine Tech School Program with blueprint reading, CNC, lathe & mill.
  • Two or more years machine shop experience in turning, boring, facing, and thread cutting.
  • Ability to perform basic math and metric conversions.
  • Read assembly drawings and casting prints; operate forklifts/cranes safely.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets prints and performs necessary calculations to lay out stock or repair parts.
  • Sets up and operates large boring mills, lathes, universal mills and drill presses.
  • Positions work pieces using hoists and aligns fixtures.
  • Uses precision measuring tools to determine machining methods and conformance to specifications.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on machine shop equipment.
  • Cross checks work and supports a safe, clean work environment.

Job Overview

Sets up and operates all machine shop equipment to make or repair all types of metal parts and equipment.

Utilizes horizontal boring mills, lathes, drill press, welding equipment, grinders, saws, hoists, micrometers, dial indicators, layout tools, etc.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Reads and interprets prints making necessary mathematical calculations to lay out stock or repair damaged parts.
  • Sets up and operates large boring mills, lathes, universal mills and drill press.
  • Uses hoist to position work piece and correctly aligns and fastens work piece to the machine.
  • Uses precision measuring and layout tools to determine machining methods and work process.
  • Observes work piece and verifies conformance to specifications and prints.
  • Maintains machine tooling and jigs in an orderly fashion. Requisitions parts and supplies as needed.
  • Re-grinds and sharpens tools as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair on machine shop equipment.
  • When required, spot welds.
  • Cross inspects work of others.
  • Performs CNC programming of mill.
  • Obeys all safety rules and performs housekeeping assignments.
  • Cross functional work force.

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Successful completion of Certified Machine Tech School Program. Training must include Blueprint reading, CNC, Lathe & Mill
  • Two or more years machine shop experience. Experience in turning, boring, facing, and thread cutting.
