Job summary

Komatsu America Corp. in Homer City, PA is seeking an experienced machinist to set up and operate machine shop equipment and to program mills for metal parts repair. The role requires blueprint reading, CNC skills, and the ability to work with precision measuring tools.

Candidates should have at least two years of shop experience, safety training, and proficiency with lathes, mills, and drilling equipment. Strong math skills and ISO knowledge are valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Certified Machine Tech School Program with blueprint reading, CNC, lathe & mill
• Two or more years of machine shop experience in turning, boring, facing, and thread cutting
• Basic math skills
• Ability to perform metric conversions
• Ability to read assembly drawings and casting prints
• Use of micrometer and calipers
• Proper operation of fork trucks and cranes
• Safety training (Haz-Com, Lock Out / Tag Out, PPE, MSDS, Housekeeping, Lifting, Electrical)
• Knowledge of ISO standards
• Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets prints and performs necessary mathematical calculations to lay out stock or repair parts
• Sets up and operates large boring mills, lathes, universal mills and drill press
• Uses hoist to position work and aligns and fastens it to the machine
• Uses precision measuring tools to determine machining methods
• Observes work piece and verifies conformance to specifications
• Performs CNC programming of mill
• Maintains tooling and jigs and requisitions parts as needed
• Performs routine maintenance and repairs on machine shop equipment

Job Overview

Sets up and operates all machine shop equipment to make or repair all types of metal parts and equipment.

Utilizes horizontal boring mills, lathes, drill press, welding equipment, grinders, saws, hoists, micrometers, dial indicators, layout tools, etc.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets prints making necessary mathematical calculations to lay out stock or repair damaged parts.
• Sets up and operates large boring mills, lathes, universal mills and drill press.
• Uses hoist to position work piece and correctly aligns and fastens work piece to the machine.
• Uses precision measuring and layout tools to determine machining methods and work process.
• Observes work piece and verifies conformance to specifications and prints.
• Maintains machine tooling and jigs in an orderly fashion. Requisitions parts and supplies as needed.
• Re-grinds and sharpens tools as needed.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair on machine shop equipment.
• When required, spot welds.
• Cross inspects work of others.
• Performs CNC programming of mill.
• Obeys all safety rules and performs housekeeping assignments.
• Cross functional work force.
