Job summary

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers safeguard the nation’s borders by enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws, inspecting people and conveyances, and ensuring the lawful flow of travel and trade. The role starts at GS-5 through GS-9/12, with annual base pay and eligibility for overtime, health and retirement benefits, and a Thrift Savings Plan.

Qualifications

• GS-5 requires a bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
• GS-7 requires specialized experience or higher education substitutions.
• GS-9 requires specialized experience or graduate-level education as a substitute.

Responsibilities

• Enforcing the flow of legitimate trade and travel.
• Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances.
• Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States.
• Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and contraband.
• Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
