Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at entry and mid-level grades (GL-5 to GS-11). The role involves border enforcement, document checks, and surveillance to protect the United States and facilitate lawful travel and trade.

Base pay varies by grade; recruitment incentives up to 20,000 USD and retention incentives up to 30,000 USD are offered, with comprehensive federal benefits including health and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
• A combination of general work experience AND successfully completed college education.

Responsibilities

• Detect immigration and customs violations and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-ops.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets for the USBP mission.
