Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is recruiting Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at full-time, entry to mid-level grades. The role offers base pay, broad federal benefits, and incentives up to $20,000 with a potential $30,000 retention incentive.

Duty locations span numerous sectors and offer growth toward GS-12 level with promotion potential. Selections will be at GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 grade levels with a base annual salary range of $51,632 to $124,717.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and stay composed in stressful situations; to learn regulations and methods; and to gather information via questioning, observation and records.
• A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
• Combination of general experience and education as outlined in the qualifications for GL-5/7/9/11.
• Specialized work experience showing judgment and decision-making in law enforcement contexts (GL-7/9/11).
• Education substitutions include a bachelor's degree or equivalent superior academic achievement.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents.
• Protecting borders and apprehending undocuments at or near the borders using various assets.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways with vehicles, horses, vessels and other equipment.
