Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at full-time, entry and mid-level positions. The agency notes strong base pay, federal benefits, and a Thrift Savings Plan. Duty locations across the U.S. offer additional incentive programs to support new agents.

Selected BPAs may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives and up to $30,000 in retention incentives over three years; highly valued for prioritized duty locations as part of the offer.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and remain calm in stressful situations.
• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree; or a combination of experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-vision gear.
• Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband; performing farm/building/traffic checks and city patrols.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets to fulfill USBP mission.
