Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking Border Patrol Agents to help secure the nation’s borders, prevent illegal entry, and enforce federal immigration and other applicable laws.

Border Patrol Agents work along the Northern and Southern borders and may operate in remote and rural areas. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in federal law enforcement, border security, public safety, and serving their country.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making, composure in stress, and information gathering.
• A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university; OR
• An applicable combination of college coursework and general work experience.

Responsibilities

• Patrol border areas to detect and prevent illegal entry.
• Identify and apprehend individuals suspected of immigration or federal law violations.
• Conduct surveillance, inspections, questioning, and examinations of people, vehicles, and property.
• Gather and evaluate information through observation, interviews, documents, and records.
• Respond to and investigate potential border-security and immigration violations.
• Detect and interdict illegal drugs, contraband, and other prohibited items.
• Operate vehicles, communications equipment, surveillance systems, and other law-enforcement technology.
• Prepare reports, maintain records, and document enforcement activities.
• Work with other federal, state, local, tribal, and international law enforcement agencies.
• Make sound decisions and maintain composure in stressful environments.
