Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking entry‑level Border Patrol Agents (GL-5/7) with a strong commitment to protecting the nation’s borders. The role offers career advancement, comprehensive benefits, and potential recruitment and retention incentives.

Duty locations include prioritized stations across the Southwest and beyond; relocation may be required. Training at the Border Patrol Academy and potential locality pay enhancements apply as part of the federal pay scale.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
• Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
• Formal training: Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, NM (approx. six months) and language training in Spanish/English

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration or customs violations and inspect documents to verify citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders, using surveillance from covert positions including night operations.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and other evidence of illegal entry; conduct farm, building, traffic, city, and transport checks.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets (vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, etc.).
• Support USBP mission and participate in border protection activities.
