Job summary

Tacoma Community College is seeking a part-time Bookstore Associate to assist customers with books and related merchandise, manage pricing, and help keep displays inviting. Position Highlights

Perform customer service duties including assisting customers on the sales floor, answering questions and phone inquiries. Check-in, price, and stock merchandise. Count inventory and make adjustments in bookstore database system. Operate a cash register to sell books, supplies, sundries, and other related merchandise. This position works closely with bookstore staff as part of a team.

Essential Functions
  • Assist customers with books and other related merchandise.
  • Receive and price merchandise.
  • Provide clerical support functions including make copies, run reports, fax, and mail distribution.
  • Stock merchandise and arrange displays.
  • Assist with inventory periodically either manually or via a hand held scanning device.
  • Operate a cash register and process various forms of payments.
  • Verify cash at the beginning and end of each shift and complete cash reports.
  • Enter information into the Bookstore database.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Intermediate data entry and computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Cash handling experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sales or cashiering experience.
  • Experience with retail POS systems, cash registers, bar code printers, and scanners.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.

Application Process
Terms of Employment

This is part-time hourly position is bound by the WAC 357-04-045 provisions above and is scheduled to work up to 17 hours per week. The salary is $17.13-$17.40 per hour. Some flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the Bookstore. A collective bargaining agreement exists and membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees or payment of a service fee may be available upon employment. TCC Part-time hourly and student employees including work study students, will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Hourly non-student employees may be applicable for comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental and vision insurance.
