Job Details

Starting rate - $14.00, pay commensurate with experience

Schedule - Monday through Friday, 8:30-5:00 pm and one Saturday per month, 8:00-12:00 pm

This position will be required to work one Saturday per month.

Job Purpose

The Bookkeeper/Teller performs a dual role supporting both the Bank's daily accounting/bookkeeping functions and frontline customer service operations. This position is responsible for accurately processing financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, completing reconciliations and other bookkeeping duties, while also providing professional and efficient teller service to customers.

The Bookkeeper/Teller must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, dependability, and attention to detail while providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities
Bookkeeping/Accounting Responsibilities
  • Perform routine bookkeeping and accounting functions in accordance with established Bank procedures and internal controls.
  • Process and record daily accounting transactions accurately and timely.
  • Assist with balancing and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies and out-of-balance conditions.
  • Prepare and process general ledger entries as assigned.
  • Assist with daily, monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting activities.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Review reports and transactions for accuracy and identify unusual or incorrect activity.
  • Assist with accounts payable functions, including processing invoices and maintaining appropriate documentation, as assigned.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations.
  • Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and documentation as requested by management.
  • Maintain organized financial records in accordance with the Bank's record-retention requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by gathering requested documentation and information.
  • Follow established accounting procedures, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Checking mobile deposits, exceptions, death notifications, and ACH returns
  • Provide backup support for other accounting functions as needed.
Teller/Customer Service Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly, professional, and efficient service to customers.
  • Process deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, loan payments, transfers, and other customer transactions accurately.
  • Maintain and balance an assigned cash drawer.
  • Verify cash, checks, identification, signatures, and transaction documentation in accordance with Bank procedures.
  • Assist customers with routine account questions and appropriately refer more complex issues to the appropriate employee or department.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce customers to additional Bank products and services.
  • Maintain appropriate cash levels and follow established cash-handling and security procedures.
  • Protect customer information and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Remain alert to potential fraud, suspicious activity, counterfeit currency, and unusual transactions and report concerns according to Bank procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Provide teller coverage as needed to support staffing and customer service needs.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Work cooperatively with Accounting, Retail Banking, and other departments.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in transitioning between bookkeeping and teller responsibilities based on the operational needs of the Bank.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Participate in required training and professional development.
  • Maintain knowledge of Bank products, services, policies, and procedures.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous banking, teller, bookkeeping, accounting, or cash-handling experience preferred.
  • Coursework or experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a financial institution is preferred but not required for a candidate demonstrating strong mathematical, organizational, and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may require prolonged periods of sitting or standing, regular use of a computer, handling currency and documents, and occasional lifting or moving of items associated with normal banking operations.

Compliance Responsibilities

The Bookkeeper/Teller is responsible for understanding and complying with applicable laws, regulations, Bank policies, procedures, internal controls, security requirements, and confidentiality standards applicable to the position. The employee is expected to complete all required compliance training and promptly report suspected fraud, suspicious activity, security concerns, or policy violations through appropriate channels.

Performance Expectations

Success in this position requires consistent accuracy, strong customer service, timely completion of assigned work, effective balancing and reconciliation skills, dependable attendance, confidentiality, and a willingness to assist wherever needed to support the Bank and its customers. This position will be required to work one Saturday per month.
