Are you passionate about financial stewardship and community-focused business? Sioux Falls Food CO-OP is seeking a Bookkeeper to oversee all aspects of accounting, payroll, reporting, and fiscal operations. This role provides the opportunity to ensure our co‑op’s financial health while supporting our values‑based mission and member‑owned model. This is a part‑time role (up to 20 hours per week, with the potential for full‑time if you have the right qualifications or interest in retail finance management and/or supervisory experience, or willingness to work on sales floor). This position does have the ability to work remotely, noting that there is a requirement to be on‑site for regular leadership meetings in Sioux Falls.
Reconcile daily sales entries and maintain accurate, timely accounting in QuickBooks.
Produce monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports for management and Retail Financial Services (RFS).
Manage accounts payable and receivable to ensure accurate, timely payments and healthy cash flow.
Submit required data to CoMetrics and NCG as scheduled.
Oversee tax compliance, including quarterly and annual filings.
Assist the General Manager with budgeting, audits, and policy governance documentation.
Payroll
Process payroll accurately using ADP, ensuring seamless transfer to QuickBooks.
Reconcile all payroll‑related accounts and benefits after each cycle.
Manage payroll tax filings and ensure compliance with IRS requirements.
Department Administration
Maintain organized financial, banking, and tax records in accordance with retention policies.
Ensure all records are easily retrievable and properly stored.
Keep department equipment and workspace organized and in working order.
Professional Development & Leadership
Actively pursue continued professional education.
Provide training and guidance to staff on financial and accounting topics.
Demonstrate leadership within the department and assist during unexpected absences or emergencies.
Support a welcoming, member‑oriented environment.
Participate in regular department meetings and bi‑weekly check‑ins with the General Manager.
Communicate scheduling and time‑off needs proactively.
Proven experience in accounting or financial management (preferably in retail, cooperative, or nonprofit settings).
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and payroll processing (ADP experience preferred).
Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and tax regulations.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
Combination of in‑store and home‑office work.
Requires mobility within store facilities and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to variable temperatures and moderate to loud noise environments.
