Job description

The Ledger Law Firm | California Division

If you’re the kind of bookkeeper who can spot a reconciliation issue from a mile away, keeps ledgers clean without being asked twice, and treats accuracy like a personal religion—keep reading.

The Ledger Law Firm is hiring a Bookkeeper with deep QuickBooks Online expertise to support our Newport Beach, California division. This is a high-trust role in a fast-moving personal injury firm where clean books, clean processes, and clean reporting matter—every month, without drama.

What you’ll do
Core bookkeeping (QuickBooks Online):
  • Own day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online (AP, AR, deposits, categorization, journal entries as needed)
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations with precision and supporting documentation
  • Maintain a clean, logical chart of accounts and consistent coding practices
  • Prepare and deliver monthly reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow snapshots, variance notes)
  • Manage vendor payments and expense workflows (and help tighten controls where needed)
  • Support year-end close and work directly with CPA/tax professionals
Trust accounting support (plus, not required):
  • Assist with client trust/IOLTA accounting workflows (tracking deposits/disbursements, client ledgers, documentation)
  • Support audit-ready trust reporting and reconciliation discipline (experience here is a big plus)
Process improvement:
  • Clean up and streamline bookkeeping workflows so leadership has real-time clarity
  • Recommend best practices for controls, documentation, and month-end close cadence
What we’re looking for
Must-haves:
  • Advanced QuickBooks Online proficiency (not “I’ve used it”—you can run it)
  • 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping experience (professional services strongly preferred)
  • Strong reconciliation skills and comfort owning month-end close tasks
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets ability (filters, pivots, clean reporting)
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and a detail-oriented mindset
Big plus (not required):
  • IOLTA / client trust accounting experience
  • CPA certification (or significant experience working alongside CPAs)
  • Experience with law firm practice management tools (Salesforce/Litify)
What success looks like (in plain English)
  • Books are current, reconciled, and defensible—every month
  • Leadership can rely on reports without “explaining away” numbers
  • Trust-related transactions (if applicable) are handled with extra rigor and documentation
  • The firm gets faster, cleaner, and more organized because you’re here
